The kitchen here at Rose Cottage is smelling wonderful just now. It's peak marmalade season, with the Seville oranges only available this month. We'll freeze some as it's impossible to make them all into marmalade just now, but the stock shed is filling up with hundreds of jars nonetheless! Seville orange marmalade and whisky marmalade are made; we're planning doing an orange and ginger one in response to customer demand - keep an eye out for it.

Have just had a visit from a family friend who has opened a wee shop in Gloucestershire. She'll be stocking up on Rose Cottage products when she's home here in Scotland and taking them south for customers. The shop is called Rainbow and it's in Livesey. Go and see Melissa if you're nearby, the shop sounds fantastic, full of interesting things, including my jam!

Well, I've finally managed to start getting the Christmas products online. Still a couple of things to go on - I need to finish off decorating the cakes and photograph them. If there's anything I've forgotten, just yell!

We are absolutely delighted to have received a bursary from the organisers of the BBC Good Food show to attend the event in October. We had to send in our application form and wait to hear if the judges liked the sound of our company. Then, we were asked to submit samples for tasting. And the judges liked our products so we have been offered a place. We'll be in the producers' village area of the show. Come along - we'd love to meet you.

Responding to demand from customers, we have now developed a range of sugar free spreads (they can't be called jam if they contain no sugar). Available in raspberry or strawberry, they'll be available to buy online very soon.

Phew, it's been so busy recently, there's been no time for blogging. We're just planning the start of production of our Christmas products ahead of them going onto the website next month. In addition, we've got chilli jelly on the go today along with three fruit marmalade. More raspberry jam will follow, and with the new season's plums and apples available now, we'll be making goodies like Victoria plum jam and orchard chutney. Better get back to the kitchen!

What a fantastic weekend we had at Portsoy. The weather was amazing and the crowds certainly turned out. We were ketp busy in the food tent, with lots of people trying - and more importantly, buying our products. Thanks to all who came along.
The next event for Rose Cottage Country Kitchen is the food fair at the Nairn Show on July 30. There are cooking demos at the fair this year, so it should be a good day. Hope some of you can come along. The Nairn Show also signals a busy week as we have the Black Isle Show on the following Wednesday and Thursday followed by Inverness Farmers' Market on the Saturday. |
